Narrowing down your passions, interests and the desire to make money into a profitable niche is going to take some Scooby Doo investigating. You will find that one of the most successful way of making money on line is:
- Have a blog you can drive traffic to.
- Monetize that blog with you own products
- Monetize your blog with affiliate products
- Monetize with paid advertising
The mystery is what niche will bring you success online.
In a previous post you looked at the different areas you might be interested in blogging about. Now it is time to get down to business and narrow in on what will work best for you. It is time to go into your Scooby Doo Act and solve the mystery.
Nichedig.com has the best video tutorials I have found. You have to sign in to get the all of tutorials, they are very well done. You will be very pleased. Vince gives you a step by step guide to using Google to search your niche and compare it to the competition. You will receive your video lessons by email. I liked this because the videos were very clear and easy to follow. By the time I completed one step I had my next video to view and work with. This is my first choice.
Kent with nichetrends.net has 4 videos on YouTube that cover 5 free tools you can use to narrow down your niche. The videos are not as clear Nichedig.com. If you are in a hurry and want to get this done quickly this will work.
- Niche Marketing: Finding a Targeted Niche; shows you how to use Lists.nextmark.com.
- Niche Marketing: Finding Traffic; shows you how to use Wordtracker.com.
- Niche Marketing: Finding Hungry Buyers; show how to use Google Suggest.
- Niche Marketing: Finding Hot Markets; shows how to use Google Trends and Digg.
You will want all of this data in an easy to follow ebook. I recommend NicheMarketHottie.com. James Robert does a fantastic job of covering what you need to do to find a sizzling niche. The book is only $17.00 and worth every penny. Note: I could not get nichemarkethottie.com to be come a hot link. You will need to type it in by hand.
What does Scooby Doo say when he discovers an outrageous niche?
Try it! Dare to be different. It works for a site Trey from Swollen Thumb turned me on to. “Stuff White People Like”. This site is a hoot! Take a look at how much traffic he gets, and how many people comment. Notice he is selling his own products.
Now you are thinking that this is a lot of work. Yes, it is a lot of work. Remember this is the most important step you will be taking and it can be the hardest one. It can also be the funnest one.
To your success!
Sheila
P.S. Next you will be learning how to choose the name or your site, your domain name. A domain name is your address. It is how people will find you. For example my domain name is Newbielifeline.com.
P.P.S. Get together with Velma, Daphne and your old pal Shaggy and get rolling. Discover a niche that is perfect for you. Solve the mystery.

I was going to find a niche, and I would have gotten away with it, if it weren’t for those meddling kids!
Thanks for the plug, Sheila. And this is a great metaphor for helping your blossoming blog or business to “find itself”,
