While doing research for this post I have come across and extensive amount of data. Most of it pretty darn good…. if you are still wondering about Twitter take a look at this dynamite post “Still Don’t Get Twitter, Maybe This Will Help”, by Paul Gillin.
Why I use twitter.
Paul did a great job of explaining some of the reasons I use Twitter. Let me expand a little on those reasons.
The 140-character limit is liberating- quickly putting my ideas and thoughts out there. Occasionally I sneak in a few blog posts just about me and my universe…on twitter I can expose my world.
Public conversations- I have made some pretty good friends on Twitter. I enjoy the conversations back a forth. Twitter is a perfect message board for our local WordPress group and geek club.
Immediacy- I can get a question answered immediately. Recently a friend of mine had a problem with his blog. We put it on Twitter and found some one with the answer. The problem solved. Need to know? Tweet it. Another friend found a publisher for his book. Need resources? Tweet it.
Retweeting-The main purpose of this blog is to forward the great ideas on the Internet. To make is easy for Newbies to find great data. I can also “play it forward” on Twitter. I think this is one of the most valuable parts of Twitter.
Discovery- I have discovered tons of great data by following links I get from my twitterverse. I use that data to build my own business and to write my blog posts. Copyblogger calls it linky goodness.
To add a couple of my very own.
Outflow = Inflow- It has been my personal experience that the more I outflow the more inflow I receive. This is true with ideas, deeds and money. Twitter allows for a lot of quick outflow.
Fun- I do have fun. I have have figured out what works for me easily (the key to playing this game) and I enjoy twittering.
Social Networking- I have chosen twitter as one of my Social Networking tools. It is a tool that I have learned to use and because of the nature of this bird I will continue to learn.
To your Twitter success.
Sheila

100% w/you on retwitting. I see a tweeter as StumbleUpon on steriods.
RT’ing can be attributed not only to other twits but actually posting valuable links to the twitter with proper keywords. I think this would be seriously valuable. So far i see more “Just walked out of the bathroom” stuff or even less interesting (can you imagine it?).

@Alik
Most of my Twitterverse has been in the Internetmarketing arena. I really have to screen out the spam stuff.
But I sure do learn a lot. Right now I am trying something new to expand that into potential blog readers. I will let your know how that goes.

I like the 140 character limit too. It does make you work at saying just what you mean. I use the 200 word short story sometimes too. I should link to some of these things in my blog. It’s on the neverending to-do list.

Laura,
Okay, now you have me curious, what is the 200 word story?
I think I would start to worry if I got all of that never ending list done.

Guess where I heard about this great post? Twitter of course. Love the Ted video too. Thanks. Even though I’m not a Twitter newbie, I’m still trying to “get it.” Love your “outflow=inflow” idea. Now I get it!
