Bringing Twitter To Your Blog?

by sheila on May 2, 2009

3pngWould would there be an advantage to putting a twitter widget on your blog? Here is what a few of my twitter friends had to say.

“To me the advantage is letting readers know there is another way to connect with you.” @essensu

“I have my own twitter thing on my blog. Folks who look at my blog but don’t follow me on twitter (like my mother) like it. @rolandksmith.

” re: twitter badge on blog -more exposure, your tweets from text-badges get indexed and of course additional content.” @chandavid

I made my new widget at WidgetBox.

There is a lot more to WidgetBox than first meets the eye so really check this site out. “Make a widget – from your blog, Twitter, a podcast, or just about anything – that anyone can embed on their site http://www.widgetbox.com/ !” - @mcbuzz

On Blogger? there is a twitter widget just for you.

Bloggers on WordPress.com have a widget made especially for them.

WordPress.org bloggers also have a twitter widget plugin.

Twitter fans, these widgets are very easy to make and put on your blog.

To your successful twittering.

P.S. What do you think? Is it a good idea to put twitter text widget on your blog?

Hi, I saw you on Problogger and wanted to check out your blog.

I have a twitter badge on my site inviting people to follow me. It’s hard to say if this is advantageous or not but it looks cute ;) and I like my readers to know there’s another way to communicate with me.

MJ,
I haven’t figured out how to monitor the advantages. I can’t find any real data on the text badge helping you index with the Search Engines. Maybe I will have to ask this question on twitter.

Thanks for checking the blog out.

I like having twitter on my blog because my readers can see my last update, maybe connect further with me. . . . . one can never get too much exposure!

Hi Sheila,
Thanks for letting me know you posted my comment about the having a twitter widget on your blog. I just thought of something else regarding this question — when I see the twitter widget on someone’s blog I’m reading, it does let me know I have another way to connect with them, but with twitter, I at least think the connect may be more direct, than leaving a comment on the blog for instance. You can click on their widget and see if they are currently commenting on twitter, and may be reach them immediately and get a response. Or, you can see how active they are on twitter, (doesn’t make much sense to put up a widget if you’re not very active, but blogger do, and they may not be very active), to gauge if they will respond quickly or not.

But since twitter is like a large chat room, active twitters are social, and show up frequently, often throughout the day. Also, need to look to the future. Twitter will most likely keep growing and who knows what it will look like when it’s all grown up. At least we are positioning for that.

I don’t think the twitter feed shows up in search engines. I’ve checked my google analytic urls, and I’ve yet to see anything from a twitter feed. But again, it may be added in the future, and then we’re already there.

Enjoyed reading your blog. Good information.

Tami,
Thanks for answering my question. I had heard from several source that it helped in indexing, so now we know.

I appreciate your great input.

Sheila – Thanks for picking up this discussion and sharing WidgetBox. With so many people using Twitter, it’s smart to put a badge of some kind where people can see it on your website or blog. Following someone on Twitter is more active than just bookmarking their site or subsribing to an RSS feed. I have too many feeds in my feed reader already and I hardly ever take time to look at it anymore. But when I follow someone on Twitter I know I will see tweets from that person and be able to find out what they’re upto and (ideally) get some gems of wisdom, as well.

As Tami said, who knows what Twitter will be like in the future, but it’s good to keep up to speed!
