Acts of Green- Only The Good Friday

by sheila on June 19, 2009

Acts of Green is a guest post from Coolwired. Going green makes for a Good Friday.

million-acts-of-greenI am here to tell you, that the One Million Acts of Green Challenge movement is now spreading globally!

Like you, I am just one person, but I plan to make a difference, here, on planet Earth. I am totally discouraged by the abuse of the natural resources we are lucky enough to have here, on this blue planet. Good planets are hard to find, as we know!

I personally invite you to spend a little time exploring the highly interactive website, started last year by Cisco Systems:
One Million Acts of Green, as seen on the CBC National Network.

Be sure to register so you can just click on different Acts of Green , to record them. It is really quite satisfying for each of us to see how many greenhouse gasses (GHG) we have reduced.

Since October, 2008, I have registered over 345 Acts of Green to help reduce my carbon footprint, and have reduced GHG by 9,032 kg. No, I’m not bragging. There are many people who have done a lot more than I have.

I hope that I will be able to afford an electric/hybrid car as my next vehicle. They will come down in price, as more & more of us buy them. Count on it!

There are easy projects:

  • Change regular light bulbs for the squirly ones.
  • For cars, save fuel by combining trips.
  • Closing curtains on a hot day, helps keep out the sun, and reduces the need for really cold air conditioning, too.
  • Buying local produce, reduces the pollution and long transportation costs, and results in having fresh food.
  • Reduce your use of plastic water bottles & plastic bags is just one act of green. reduce-reuse

What is an Act of Green?

Check it out, for yourself here: ONE MILLION ACTS OF GREEN

There are so many easy acts of green you can do! What will you do?

Challenge family, friends, co-workers- even your own kids! The best thing, is that it is free to join!26-unread-yahoo-mail-dsatwoodrocketmailcom-1

I know people who have formed groups at schools, work, & in their communities. It soon becomes a “snowball” effect.

What about on social networks? Let’s test the power of the internet. If you want to help with this, just register yourself, for the One Million Acts of Green Challenge. Good planets are hard to find! Now is the time to act! Think globally, act locally. Use social media, newspapers, word-of-mouth, & all your connections!

Do whatever it takes. Just do it!

“Keep smiling, they’ll wonder what you’ve been up to.”

It think any time we exercise “purdent living” we benefit ourselves as well as contribute to others.

Hi Trapper! Nice to meet you. I think these are some very “common sense” things we all can do. There are so many more ideas out there!
Regards,
Coolwired.
