How To Use WordPress For Your Contact Page

How to use Wordpress to make a contact form for your contact page is explained in a post I found on a forum. I asked permission to share it with you.

Now this is a little advanced data, meant for those of you who are already have your WordPress Blog up and running.

Hi all,

Im a webdesigner and I love WordPress (PHP).

Contact forms and plugins are a handful at the best of times.

I decided to add a contact form to my WordPress site and copy the steps for you to follow:

1: Head to http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/contact-form-7/ and download the plugin.
2: Unzip on your desktop in a location you can find again to FTP up to your WordPress site. For me the folder that was created from the unzip was: contact-form-7
3: Upload this folder to your WordPress plugins folder. My one is located in /public_html/wp-content/plugins/
4: Login as an admin user on your WordPress go to Plugins and active the new Contact Form 7 module.
5: Once you activate your plugin the activation link turns into a settings link. Click this settings link. You will also notice that you now have a new menu under the setting link on your WordPress.
6: We can make multiple forms each one different. For us this is not that important. When we make forms in the future we will be attempting to make a mailing list so would probably be using a AWeber form instead. So just stick to the defaults and the single form for now.
7: From the settings you can configure the email that the form submits to, the fields that you want in your form. I suggest that you add a captcha which requires this extra plugin: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/rea … e-captcha/ When you start ranking for keywords you will get lots of automated spam comments and your contact form will get the same spam traffic levels.
8: Create a page called contact me. Make an introduction such as:

Code: Select all
<p>If you would like to get in contact with me, please use the form below. Im a busy mum with two children but regularly make time to check my messages. I try to reply to everyone in turn.</p>

Then add the code (Using the html mode):
[contact-form 1 "Contact form 1"]

You can then tail the form with a message and your affiliate link. Im still testing the layouts.

9:Test
Send yourself a message. Its important that you make sure that WordPress can send emails. If it can not then you really have to contact your hosting supplier. Some of the plugins use mail, a script that runs on the hosting server. There are settings and user restrictions that can all be a hurdle. This is why you pay for your hosting to be on a server, so that you can get support when you need it. The support guys are normally wrodpress junkies so will know exactly what your trying to do and test it for you.

END: I hope this helps, if you need any more help I suggest you check out the wordpress forums and plugin website.

Good luck on your contact page,

Sheila

P.S. I love WordPress. The plugins make it easy for those of use who do not know code and do not wish to learn it. How to use WordPress is made easy with plugins.
