Online Security Threats How to Protect Your Online Business

by sheila on October 7, 2009

Online security threats have been on the news lately. The latest online threat has affected our email. All major email companies have been affected.

Email addresses and passwords have been posted on the Internet. Email users were sent an email saying they needed to update their information. The data was collected and then published for the rest of the world to see. Scam!

How to protect your self.

1. Use different passwords for your accounts. Never use the password you are using for your email for other accounts, like your online banking.

2. Never give your password to anyone. If someone requests your password report it!

3. Keep a note book for all your passwords and user information. Do not store password and user information on your computer.

4. Only give your credit card data to secure sites. These sites will have “https://” in their web address.

6. Purchase a separate credit card for your online use. These credit cards are also great for travel.

7. Rent a mail box that gives you a street address and use that mail box address for all of your online business. That includes purchasing domain names and any online business you conduct.

8. Never use the word “admin” as your user name for your WordPress Blog. Make your password unique to all other passwords.

What should you do about this online security threat?

Change your passwords. Go to every email account, domain name registration, secure payments accounts and change your passwords. Make them unique.

Put all of your new information in a note book that is not on your computer.

Protecting your online business from security threats is easy if you are smart and take the time to protect yourself.
