How to Blog on WordPress – Your Sidebar

by sheila on November 12, 2009

In the “How To Blog On WordPress” seriesĀ  I will be posting on using your sidebar as an effective marketing tool.

We will be looking at each element of the sidebar and what works best for your readers and for you.

Sidebar placement

Many WordPress themes come with the option of a left hand side bar. Although it is tempting to put a side bar on the left of your blog, don’t.

Yes, your readers read your blog from left to right, but so do the web crawlers. Save that valuable space for content that you will be updating with good keyword information. This is one time you want to give the search engines the advantage.

Use right hand side bars. Your content will be first and you will still have plenty of room to put important information above the fold. You want your readers to have easy access to who you are, what your blog is about, your optin box and display ads.
