Making money with blogs has not only become big business for Internet Marketers, but big off line companies are find that they can make money blogging.
What is a Blog? A blog is a weblog. It is basically a way to give (and receive) continuing data easily, whether the information is a personal journal or to market your business. The ability to continually add data to a website has attracted every business from Martha Stewart toyour local church. A blogger presents his world and asks for communication back.
Blogging has skyrocketed. Most blogs are for fun. There over 50 million blog sites. When you can reach a world wide audience, it is know wonder they have become big business. More and more blogs are for profit. They take donations, sell product and create space for advertisers.
How are they making money blogging? Here are some methods.
Contextual Ads: I am sure you have seen these. The “Ads by Google” you see on blogs or in your G-mail are called Adsense. The text of your e-mail or blog is scanned for content and ads related to that content is placed on you site by Google. Chikita is another great company for contextual ads.
Are Contextual Ads worth it? It has been my observation that unless you have thousands of visitors to you site it may not be worth it. You only get paid if one of your readers clicks and buys form the ad. Once the reader clicks the ad they are taken to the ad site, which means they have now left your site. Until you have a faithful readership you may not get the reader back.
Establish a big following and then give Contextual Ads try.
Affiliate Marketing: Affiliate marketing is basically promoting another persons product for a commission. The simplest definition I could find on the Internet is at WikiAnswers.
Amazon.com uses affiliates to market and sell their products. GreenYourDecore.com is the perfect example of how this is done. Once you are on the site go to the bottom of the page and click-Price: $22.99 and see where it takes you.
As a blogger you have the forum on which you can promote and sell another persons product. I purchased the theme for my blog from Problogger. Darren Rowse was promoting the theme on his blog. The theme developer is Chris Pearson. Darren received a commission from Chris for my purchase.
This site is an affiliate marketing site. The ads in the sidebar are affiliate adds. I also write reviews and blog posts promoting the products I am an affiliate for.
Promoting or reviewing a product on your blog gives the product validity. The key is to be sure that all the products you promote pertain to you blogs topic. Mommy blogs promote mommy products. Beauty blogs promote beauty products.
Banner Ads: Many Blogs sell space on there site for advertisers. Some good example is Startupprincess.com.The Bank of American Fork and Costco are paying to advertise on her blog.
PLR Products: With in limitations you have the right to resell a product for 100% of the profit. There are thousands of digital products with resale rights. Just google “PLR rights +your topic”. You can find products you can resale on your blog, no matter what you are blogging about. Just be sure you understand what you can and cannot do with each product. Now this can be tricky here…remember DON’T BUY ANYTHING! unless you know exactly what you are getting and exactly what you are going to do with it.
Your Own Products: Kathy Griffiths is selling her own ebook at FantasicKids.net
Review Sites: Blogs can be set up to review and sell products PhoneScoop.com is a good example. I also have a couple of review sites: CBenginereview.com and Cellphonetreasure.org.
Now that you have looked at blogs that have that money making potential……don’t you want to blog too?
Happy blogging,
Sheila

@Walter
The key is to keep any monetizing relevant to your site. Promote only those products you
are proud of.
You have really good traffic to your site. Your readers are active. You have plenty of room
to add product in your sidebar….weather you use affiliate products or your own.
Here are two you might want to look at http://zenhabits.net and http://www.quicksprout.com/
Neil Patel has a sales page attached to his site, check out the upper right hand
corner. He is also email marketing.
http://moneymakerinfo.blogspot.com/—not only does he use banner ads but his blogroll
which he calls “Related Sites” are paid advertising. I think those ads are going for $50.00
a month. Be sure you are selective of who you let advertise.
I know it is tough, but when you are promoting value, your visitors will appreciate your
recommendations.
