Now that we have covered the best essential WordPress plugins, lets look at some extra plugins and why you want to include them. These plugins enhance how you blog on wordpress.
CommentLuv -Interaction with readers is one of the biggest advantages of having a blog over a static site. Comments are an essential part of your blog. CommentLuv Plugin shows a link to the last post from the commenter’s blog by parsing the feed at their given URL when they leave a comment. Rewards your readers and encourage more comments.
Twitterlink Comments adds an extra field to the comment form allowing users who comment to add their Twitter username and then display it along with the comment. The plugin does all the work for you.
Your commenters only have to enter their twitter name once and every comment from them on the whole site will display a link to follow them.
Audio Player is a little more advanced plugin but is worth learning if you want to add audio to your blog. On a Mac you can record your audio in iMovie and turn your file into and MP3. For a PC I recommend Audacity. It is free and is easy to learn.
Audio Player also comes in stand alone format that can be used on sales pages that are not on WordPress. (This is an example of how I use Audio Player)
You can download all of these plugins right from your dashboard. Which makes it so simple.
Go to your dashboard. On the left there is your navigation bar. Scroll down and click the plug icon. Then go up to add new. Copy and past the plugin in name I listed above. Click install and then activate your plugin.

Now you will need to set the settings. Go the the left navigation bar again, to settings and click on the plugin you need to set. That part is explained well on each of the settings pages.
Do you use a plugin you would like to add to the “Best WordPress Plugins”? Or do you have experience with the plugins suggested? Let us know.
Sheila

It’s nice that there are so many to choose from. It gives bloggers the opportunity to really customize their sites.
Since there are so many wonderful plugins available that it’s hard to decide which ones are the most valuable to my particular blog.
I try and keep my plugin structure pretty simple and only use the ones that will enhance my site.
Hey Shelia:
Comment luv is the best plugin. For one thing I get to see the latest blog written from my commentators, and other people can check out their site as well. Spread the love. Together we all succeed.
Have to check out Tweeterlink comments. Do not have this yet.

Great choice of plugins!
I’m a big fan of CommentLuv and TwitterLink, too. I’ve got Audio Player installed but need to play with it some more and get busy using audio on my blog.

I can tell you are a big fan of CommentLuv and TwitterLink. I visited your site and your post on CommentLuv. I have to admit that I did not know that comments on WordPress are “no follow” by default.
Audio Play does take some time configuring. I think I would be perfect for training on membership sites.

Thanks, Sheila!
Like Jane, I haven’t been using the Twitterlink Comments plugin. Got to check that one out.
CommentLuv has been giving me grief lately.
My blog posts are not showing up when I leave comments. I’ve submitted a help desk ticket and I’ve gotten no response from their support department. I really like the plugin so I’m hoping to continue to use it if I can get this issue resolved. Have any ideas?

@Melanie here is a post that gives you a check list of things to do when your comments do not show up on commentluv enabled sites:

Hope that helps.
Shelia,
Hey this is great information. I just added the TwitterLink comments. Thank you so much for putting this information out there.

You will love TwitterLink. It is a great way to create a valuable twitter group. One that is interested in what each person has to say. One that can support each other with retweets.

I agree, it is a great way to spread the love. Not only bog sites but also incoming links.
Okay…now I have to checkout Audio Boo – On a Mac so it looks like Cinch Cast is out.

Much thanks for the first-class post. I am always trying to find decent WordPress plugins to suggest to my clients. Thanks for posting this article. Do you know the answer to this question: Will inactive plugins slow down the WordPress admin console? I realize active plugins will slow it down, but I’m just curious if inactive plugins will? Do you know?

Yes, they do. You can run a test to check how much by going to

Everything I have read tells us not to keep inactive plugins on our sites. Both for security and for load time.
I like to keep my site clean of anything I am not using, for load time and security. I get rid of old posts that are no longer relevant, themes, plugins, and the spam comments. Also I do a back up of my site and do not want to store that info.

Sheila, I love your blog. I have added it to my blog recommendations.
I love being able to give my readers the information they want and need and together we can accomplish this.
Did you know that the Basic HTML Color set is a combination of 216 color? You can find a tabulated view of the basic HTML color on the internet. It can be handy when you need to quickly choose a standard HTML color for your site or any other project.
