Configuring All In One SEO WordPress Plugin

Using the “All In One SEO” plugin takes some configuring. As with anything else I like to keep it very simple. All In One is simple to use once you have it set up.

Keep in mine your theme may already have a place you can tell the search engines what you want to be seen on their sites. When you add or edit a post you will see a place to make your site known to the search engines.

First and most importantly, when I am setting up a new blog I do not want the search engine spiders to crawl my site until I am ready to go on line. This gives me control of what I want them to see and not see. For example I do not want my privacy policy or my contact page to be indexed. Sometimes they end up at the top of your blog searches and they are not important.

The first step is to keep your blog private when you are setting it up. Go to settings in your sidebar and click on privacy in the drop down menu. Then make sure to click the bottom button: O – I would like to block the search engines, but allow normal visitors.

Once you have completed your set up you must got back into your privacy setting and allow for the search engines to crawl your site.

The next step is to configure your “All In One SEO”

Go back into your left side bar and choose settings, go down  and click All In One SEO, found in the drop down menu. This will take your the the All In One SEO options page.

Now make sure you donate. Remember these plugins are made by programmers and they are donated for your use.

Next configure this plugin but do not activate until you have all of the pages you do not want indexed listed.

Now this is very important. This is your chance to tell the world what you blog is all about. Your home title is what you visitors will see at the top of their browser when they come to your site.

You want your home title and your home description to be keyword rich and interesting to your readers. You must make sure that both are relevant to what your blog is all about.

Next list the main keywords you will be using in you blog. You can leave this blank so no one can see the keywords you are targeting.

Now you will find that the rest of the check boxes are already checked correctly for you. But you can double check them.

Make sure Canonical URL’s and Rewrite Title Boxes are ticked. Now make sure No index for Categories, Archives, Tag Archives, Capitalize Category Titles are ticked.

I leave the rest alone until I get down to “Exclude Pages”

This is where you want to include any pages you do not want indexed. You will find the page numbers in the URL of a page that editing in your dash board.

Now you are ready to write your about me page, your contact information page and your blog posts. Then return to your Settings and change your privacy and fix your exclude pages in All In One.

Every time you post make sure you use All In One. Look just below the post you are editing. Create the title tag, meta description and keywords for each post. (Again, you do not need to include the keywords, because others will see what you are targeting. And the search engines will crawl your site for the keywords).

This might seem like a lot of to do about nothing. But I assure you getting and configuring your All In One WordPress Plugin is worth it! Your site will show “noindex” to the search engines if you do not do this step. Do you have a favorite SEO tip or plugin?
