As part of my How To Blog On WordPress series, I want answer some of the most common WordPress Questions I get from newbies.
Should I use WordPress or Blogger?
Both are different formats. Blogger makes a very easy to use format. It great for personal blogs. But when it comes to making money online I like the control of owning and hosting my own site. Although WP might seem a little more techy at first, the freedoms that come with owning your site make WP worth it.
What is the difference between a site on WordPress.com and WordPress.org? This is similar to the above question. The big difference here is the ability to monetize and host a site on your own domain. WordPress.com is great for personal and information blogs. In fact they are so easy to set up, like blogger, you could set up sites that have links to your main WordPress sites.
Isn’t hosting expensive? Look at your blog as a business. You pay 7.49 for a domain name with GoDaddy. You pay Hostgator $90.oo a year for shared hosting. (I currently have 22 blogs on that account that is $2.14 a blog.)
Then you pay aWeber $240.00 a year for your email marketing campaigns. That is a total of $333.00 a year for complete a business that has a world wide location…the Internet. Where else can you find that opportunity for that cheap?
Where should I buy my domains? I am a big big fan of GoDaddy when I am buying domains. Yes you can find cheaper domains else where. But you will like the fact that you get excellent service. You can list your domains for sale. You can forward the domains you are not currently using to sites that you are using (at no extra charge). When purchasing domains, go with GoDaddy. All of your other services, like hosting, buy somewhere else….it is that control thing again.
Do you have any WordPress questions? Or any good WordPress answers?

Being in control of my own website is important to me. I first began to blog on TypePad. Even though it was easy, I knew in the long run it would not be good for my business. After about a year of blogging on TypePad… I made the change. I have never looked back.
WordPress has simplified it’s format since I started using it… It’s now a snap to set up a new site and use it. WordPress.org is the only way to go.
