Are You An Affiliate Marketer? – 5 Ways You Can Be the Best

by sheila on July 2, 2010

Why would you want to be an affiliate marketer? Why promote someones product? Don’t you make more money selling you own products?

My answer is why not!

  • It is easy. You can locate products in you niche just by searching for “your niche – affiliates”
  • It is a stream of income. Although you may have your own products, being an affiliate for others is another way to add to your income.
  • I promote you – You promote me. You can network with others in you niche and promote each others products. This can be done with guest posting, webinars, placing ads on each others sites and interviews.
  • You can start today. Clickbank has thousands of info and software products. Setting up a Clickbank account is easy. Every product comes with a sales page you can send your readers to.
  • Monetizing your blog. Being an affiliate is a great way to monetize your blog. This could be your main blog or a niche site set up just to promote affiliate products.

Five ways you can be the best affiliate marketer.

1. Know the product you are promoting. Buy it, use it. Now you know enough to write about it. Now you know if you want to endorse it. Make it personal.

2. Write great content about the products you are promoting. Include the affiliate links in that post. Take every chance you can to refer to the product. Write reviews from different viewpoints.

3. Use pictures of the product. People like to see what they are purchasing. Show pictures of the product. If you are selling an eBook, show the eBook. If you are selling Nascar blankets, show someone loving their blanket. It gives your readers more reality on what they are buying. Besides, you wouldn’t buy something from eBay that you had not seen.

4. Find ways to continue to promote the product. You have spent time and money in locating great affiliate products, get more bang for your buck. Interview the author, show how the product works, and share testimonials of the product. Write and submit articles to article directories like Ezines.com. Make a video about the product and put it on YouTube.

5. Increase your readership. The more people to your blog the more people to sell to. We all want more traffic to our sites. Learn what it takes to get more traffic. Once you have your blog up and running, set up a traffic plan. Include SEO, social networking, email marketing and offline marketing

I agree… Why not? It takes a lot of time to develop your own product and why not start making money with affiliate products first. That way, you get to know what your readers want before investing time into producing your own products.

Thanks Kathy,

Even the big Gurus are affiliates for other peoples products. I get emails about it all the time. So it is a system you can learn and expand on.

Bravo! I love affiliate marketing, Sheila.

I like to refer to affiliate marketing as headache-free and hassle-free.

And you’ve absolutely hit the A.M. nail on the head — you must PURCHASE and USE the products and services you plan to promote. Otherwise, you stand a big chance of losing your credibility. Ouch.

Three cheers for affiliate marketing!

Hi Melanie,

I like knowing that I am promoting a good product. And it makes it easy to promote when you have your own experience. I think your readers can tell.

So so true! I was talking to a few people (here in Poland) and they thought the only way to sell something was to own it (like a physical store). But I kinda reworded what they said, and what you wrote here, is that well: a store is more or less a physical affiliate store (sorta …). And even if we’re not talking about a store, anytime you sell something that you didn’t create, ie: old speakers, old car … it’s also like an affiliate sale because many times you aren’t just selling the physical product you’re also selling the brand name with it. Which is why you can always ask a higher price when selling an Audi or what not!

So yes, WHY NOT become an affiliate. It’s easy, and in most cases there is no down side!

Woot!
