The new Old Spice commercials are creating quite a BUZZ. I first noticed it when the Old Spice man became a trending topic on Twitter. It wasn’t long and every one was talking about the Old Spice social media campaign. Simply put, it is brilliant!
Social Media
You can now follow the Old Spice man on Twitter, You Tube and join his Facebook fan page. And don’t for get to get the “Whistle” for your cell phone.
Now that is taking social media by storm! As of today the Old Spice man has 84,810 followers. The You Tube Video has had 9,598,989 views since June 29th.
Pretty funny huh?
Target Market
Then taking Twitter and You Tube to the next level the Old Spice man creates it’s own target market. With You Tube videos made directly to companies and famous people on Twitter.
I have seen others say that the Old Spice man is targeting women in the very first video on this page. I say no they are not! They are targeting men. I mean what man wouldn’t like to walk on water and end up on a motor cycle wearing the perfect pair of jeans. And he can do it all because he smells like a man.
Branding
Improving and updating your brand is a smart move. It makes your brand stronger.
What I like is that Old Spice has always portrayed the scent as being “Manly”. They have just taken that branding to a whole new level. They have also branded Old Spice with a theme tune. Now they have taken it into today’s market with a free ring tone. Smart.
Toot Your Horn
Recently fellow Internet Marketer Melanie Kissell wrote a guest blog post about tooting your horn “Become an Expert at “Stating” Your Expertise – Step Up and Claim It!” Melanie gives some great ideas about creating your own sizzle and spark. Creating your BUZZ.
Now I would say that Old Spice has done a great job tooting their horn.
Sheila
P.S. Do you think the video is targeting men or women?

What a riot. Clever, clever. It’s certainly thinking out of the box. “Tooting your own horn” has been taken to a whole new level with this one.”
By the way… “Old Spice” was one of the first colognes that I ever smelled. Our next door neighbor used to wear it. My own dad, did not wear cologne so it was a real surprise to me to learn than men wore “perfume.”
LOL!! My dad and my brothers used to wear Old Spice many years ago and I didn’t even know it was still around. But I can still smell it!
These videos are great fun. And I believe they’re targeting MEN.
Thanks so much for the mention and the link to my guest post, Sheila. You’re the cat’s pajamas!! (They used to say that back when Old Spice was first formulated)
You shine,
Melanie
Your welcome on the mention.
The fun videos is a big lesson for me. Keep it fun! You are good at it. I like how you use terms like “the cats pajamas”. My dad had a thousand sayings like that and it was so much fun.
