Is Your Article Marketing Like An Oil Pump?

Have you been writing quality articles or just pumping them out? Is your article marketing like an oil pump, out in the middle of nowhere. Pulling up all that you can muster. Working day in and day out trying to full fill a big quota?

There is no doubt that article marketing works. It is one method of sending traffic to your site, sales page or optin page.

But what do articles full of goo say about you and your sites? No matter what you are putting on the net, quality counts, and that includes quality in your article marketing campaign.

What makes a quality article?

  • Good SEO – So searchers and search engines can find your articles.
  • Headlines – Keyworded headlines that POP! and make the searcher want to read what you have to say.
  • Article description- Does your description create curiosity. Does it make the person want to read your article and find out what you have to say?
  • Article Body  – Now deliver! Give valuable information that shows your expertise and brings results ( a click on the link in the resource box). Talk one on one with your readers. Talk in your voice and in your style.
  • Resource box – Your reader gets a precise call to action.

The goal of article marketing is traffic. And the purpose of getting traffic is to get your readers to take action.

What kind of articles work?

  • List articles – You know the ones… “20 Healthy Lunch Ideas That You Kids Will Beg For” — “Practical Parenting – 5 Winning Ways To Tell Your Kids No”
  • How to articles – “How To Find Unique Gifts For Your Sweetie” – “How To Buy A Kite” – “How To Store Wool Sweaters” – “How To Care For Day Lilies”.
  • Product Review – Write a non biased review of a product. Keep your review honest and full of valuable information.
  • Information – Provide facts that answer questions your readers might have. “Do Peonies Need Ants To Bloom?” -  “Do Women Make Better Bosses?” – “10 Community Service Projects That Make A Difference”.

So when you go to submit your next article to the article directories, ask yourself… Does this article provide quality information? Will this article compel the reader to click on the link in the resource box?

P.S. Make quality articles part of your article marketing campaign and track the results. Then come back here and tell me if I am right or wrong. Quality Articles count.

  1. Super “non-gooey” tips, Sheila!

Sometimes people just churn out one article after another just for the sake of putting something on the internet. Not good – for all the reasons you’ve mentioned above.

And some people are hired to do article marketing for what’s known as “content mills”. You can hire these writers for a song and a dance but I suspect you’ll get exactly what you pay for — pretty low quality results. Let’s face it. If you’re paying someone $2 to write an article, do you really think it’s going to be fabulous?! Most likely not.

Love your examples of the kinds of articles that “work”!

  2. By breaking down the parts of the article and giving each area the needed attention it deserves, will certainly produce a better articles.

Like Melanie, I see so many folks just writing article after article without giving them the needed thought and attention to make them worth reading.

    Thanks for the needed reminders!

  3. Excellent tips! Quality really does matter when it comes to article marketing (and, well, everything else).
