“May all your troubles last as long as your New Year’s resolutions!” ~ Joey Adams
Clear last October I started to look at what I had accomplished and what I wanted to get done in 2011. I immediately started to organize my blog so that I could get some other things accomplished.
In fact this is the list I came up with when Theresa Bradley-Banta of BigFishTopDogs.com asked this question:
What are the top five things you didn’t get done in 2010… and are they baggage you want to carry into 2011?
1. 2 niche sites did not get up…going into 2011
2. Did not get my Linked in running on it’s own….going into 2011.
3. Did not get my membership site up…going into 2011.
4. Did not complete a course I started…..going into 2011.
5. Did not complete two new reports….going into 2011.
6. Did not get my auto-responder messages to the level I wanted….going into 2011.
Well, jumping the gun didn’t help. I failed to start those plans and found myself struggling to get rolling with the New Year. A few posts by others saved my bacon and I am back to setting my weekly and daily targets to meet my goals.
Hope you are inspired too.

Hi Sheila
Thanks so much for mentioning my small niche blog in your roundup. I was so surprised when I woke up this morning (Sunday here already in Oz) and saw I had got a mention.
I repect your experience and expertise so feel honoured to be up there on your blog. Much appreciated.

Patricia,
You are welcome and thank you for the compliment. Also kudos to you for getting out there in the blogsphere. I admire you for that and wish you great success.
Because of a death in the family, I’ve not been on the net. My interest went up in smoke. I’m just getting my feet on the ground and getting back to business. Which brings up a interesting point. Can your new year’s goals start with any day on the calender? I say yes. And… like you’ve pointed out… you can even assign your old goals to a new year.
The challenge is… following through and getting them done no matter when you start. How about setting a few goals, accomplishing them and then setting a few more… spreading them through out the year. That way you don’t get overwhelmed. Hmmm, I really like that idea.

Kathy,
Yes take it in chunks!
No there is nothing wrong with taking things in chunks. I like to call that meeting my targets. What counts is having those targets are set toward your long range goals and your purposes.
Glad to hear you’re back to setting weekly and daily targets to meet your goals, Sheila — big kudos to you for perseverance!
And thanks so much for introducing everyone to Ann Tran. I popped over to take a peek at her site and instantly decided to follow her on Twitter and add her feed to my Twitter stream. What a fabulous lady!
Patricia, Marcus, and Pat were AWESOME choices for this topic!!
P.S. THREE CHEERS for Kathy’s comments! I’m feeling like a kindred spirit.
I’m not one to ever set long term goals (I can hear all the biz coaches out there gasping for air!).
I enjoy life a whole lot more, feel much better about myself, and enjoy and embrace each day with enthusiasm by keeping a close check on reality and setting “mini” goals for the short term. Otherwise, I start feeling a heavy weight bearing down on me and begin to see dark clouds looming overhead. At this age and stage in my life, I’m finding it much more beneficial to live in the moment. Okay, I’ll get down from my soapbox now.

Hi Sheila –
I’ve always loved that quote by Joey Adams!
Thank you so much for the mention in your post. You already know that I found your reflections on 2010 to be very inspirational. I think it’s awesome that you shared those things here!
Kudos to you for getting back on track with your weekly and daily targets! There is no rule that the process of setting goals has to start on January 1. What a great reminder!

Latief,
I am back to tell you that I am back on track and doing much better. I suppose it is better to be late than never.
I like your review site…hope you are doing well
Hey Sheila,
I know I’m a couple weeks late commenting on a New Years Resolution post, but I would rather chime in late, than never. The last few years I have been trying something a little different to help keep me on track: I tell as many people as possible what my resolutions are! I find that it keeps me focused and puts a little social pressure on when I may start to veer. Knowing that a family member or friend could ask at anytime how my “so and so” is going, I want to be on top of it.
Thanks for the good posts, looking forward to more.

Navid,
That is a pretty daring plan. I don’t like it when my goals fail and others know about it. Hmmm Maybe I could use someone holding my feet to the fire. Especially a good friend.
Ok biscuit, I’m been trying to engage you but you don’t want any part of me……….:).
I’ve always felt if you set your goals low enough you will never be disappointed; meaning, I didn’t have any resolutions in the first place.
All kidding of course; I do best when I write it down, keep it front of me to frequently review and take a no escuses, no whining attitude. I still let one or two things get by but it typically keeps me on track for two or three of the big items.
I know you are the WordPress master and have put out some really great, informative content that I need to get into. I’m only one step beyond setting my account up………..:(. It just has been hard trying to stay plugged in and follow some blogs AND take care of my own stuff. I do have a payin’ gig during the day that needs my attention.
I like your ‘stuff’ and I will be back.
