Do you ever have a hard time making your WordPress images do what you want them to? Recently we set up a site for a client that used a lot of images. And I had to figure out how to get them to mind.
First I selected my images and uploaded the to the post, aligning them to the left.
But this was the result…
The Remedy is a small piece of HTML code:
Now you may notice that the code was not the same between sections. I had to mess with the code between the text. Sometimes there would be only 1 code and some times there would be 3 or 4. Even the space between your text and the code may need to be removed.
The results are worth the effort.
I use this little piece of code often. For example in my last post “What Ever He Would Come Up With It Would Be Bold” , the optin box wanted to run right into the author bio. was the answer. I just added 2 codes to the bottom of my post.
To make things go a little faster on big projects, like the one I did for my client, open two windows when you are working. One window for changing the HTML code and updating. Then use preview window for viewing the results. You will just need to refresh the 2nd window after each change and update to see the difference.
Hope that helps when those pesky images throw things off.
Sheila

Awesome tip! This is very useful as I have been having the same kind of problems that you experience when working with images in wordpress. It’s a bit quirky and often looks weird. I’ll try out your tip and see how it works for me. Thanks!

Richard,
Glad you like it. I have been amateur when it comes to hacking WordPress. Most of my hacks have come from observing how it works and then repeating it.
Thanks for commenting
WordPress is pretty much easy to navigate and understand if you know a bit of HTML.

Rocky,
That is true. Not needing to know code is one of the great advantages of WordPress. I found I was doing great until I wanted to push the limits.
Hi Sheila
That is a great tip you have shared with us. I usually only have one graphic per post so haven’t had any problems so far with my picture not ending up where I want it.
However on my new site I will have pages where I want more than one photo in a post so this is very helpful. Thanks for sharing what you figured out works. Appreciated.

Hi Sheila:
You have made a good point about using pics in word press. Sometimes I do end up with the sizing problem, when I have to match it with my writing panel. Generally, it is okay.
But you are becoming a great master of word press. You study it so much and that is great.
It is better to be a master, you create acceptance by everyone. Keep up the good work.

Fran,
You are so gracious. I Have even surprised my self. I chose WordPress because it is an easy format that goes along way.. But putting up WordPress sites for others has made me look even deeper at the inner workings. I never thought I would be learning HtML and CSS.
I have a couple of things I will be showing to help with sizing so stop back.
Wow–I sure needed this tip! I always have so much trouble when I use multiple images in my posts, that I usually give up and just choose “None” in the alignment section. Since I don’t know much HTML, I never thought there could be a simple solution. Thanks so much Sheila! I’m definitely bookmarking this.

You are welcome. Let me know how this works for you.
Now that’s a really cool tip Sheila. I usually also just include one photo per post but on my other blog I usually include more than one. Every once in awhile I’ll run into some sort of glitch so I’ll definitely give this one a try before losing my religion over it.
Appreciate this tip and I’ll be sure to share this one with my friends. I know they’ll appreciate it as well.
Great job!

Aren’t simple solutions always the best!
When you add ‘ ’ (without the quotes), that is html code for Non Breaking SPace – you are adding a space on that line. In effect you are adding invisible lines (after all, who can see a space?) and it forces the picture to move down!
Great tip!
Be Well.

This is David. Hello to all. As I am new to the internet and blogging in particular,I have a lot to sort out and to learn. Thankfully, bloggers are some of the classiest and most informative people anywhere. I need all of the information I can get and this post helps a whole lot. Thank You for posting this.
I’ve tried adding the no breaking space code before and never had any joy with it. Now you tell me you have to use it in conjunction with line breaks!!!! Thanks – I had no idea it was that simple!
I’ve been meaning to add extra images to my posts – good for seo with the alt tags, but preferred it to look nice over the extra benefits. Not a problem now!
Kind regards, Dan

I always have this problem and sometimes my solution is “resizing” the image or adding or deleting text from my article, just to make t look good. Thanks for this one. Really …

Too cool for words, Sheila — thanks!
I generally steer clear of anything that even hints of the use of “code” because I usually end up making a mess of things. But with your instructions and screenshots here, I might just be brave enough to play around with this little snippet of code.
You rock!

Thanks for the tip Sheila. Getting my images to do what I want them to is probably one of my biggest WP problems. Usually it comes out alright in the end – but it takes more time than I would like, plus a bit of trial and error sometimes.
