Best Twitter App

Buffer is the newest addition to my arsenal. I have made this my top twitter app. I can fill my Buffer in just a few minutes and have Tweets going out all day long. This is a free Twitter app, but the upgrade is sooo cheap and worth it.

I won’ t go into great detail here, that has already been done over at AlexWhalley.com “Use Buffer and Increase Your Impact on Social Media, Tweriod”. This guest post by Leo Widrich tells how to use Buffer with Tweriod to make them most of your Tweeting time.

Leo also has a guest post at TrafficGenerationCafe.com “How to Write Kick-ass Tweets that Standout”. In this post you will learn exactly how Buffer works.

Now you can download a Buffer Button right from the WordPress plugin directory and add the button to your site.

  • Add Tweets at the peak time your followers are on Twitter
  • Schedule your Tweets for the day or week
  • Tweet right from Buffer

Hey Sheila, pretty good list :) I use Tweet Old post and love that plugin. I used Tweetmeme for a long time, but since I have a twitter button on another plugin, I removed it. I won’t even mention how much I am using Triberr and Tweetdeck. Actually 99% of my Twitter stuff goes through Tweetdeck, love it! I also love Buffer but I just keep forgetting to use it, although I even have the little Chrome extension installed. Guess I will have to pay more attention!

You really didn’t miss any good services here, you have it all :)

Hope you have a great week!

    • Thanks Brankica,

I consider use the Official Twitter Plugin because you could add comments to your RTs but TweetMeme made that possible and the TweetMeme Button matches my site.

Here is the link for the official Tweet Button for those of you that would like to use it. http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wordpress-tweet-button/

I love Tweet Deck Too and I am very happy with tribe in Triberr, I am still building my own Tribes.

When I first downloaded Buffer I did not use it, but now I have a system down that makes it easy to keep it filled, then I just add extra real time tweets. It is perfect for days when I am away.

  2. Hi Sheila:

First I will congratulate you on your advancement on titles. Your and Peggy’s titles have changed a lot, after the latest study or contest. This post is awesome. I use some of them, specially the last one you mentioned I do not know anything about. I will look at it once I finish
writing the comment. I forget the comment otherwise. Also thanks for your comment on the guest post.

It seems to be a bright and warm day at my end I hope you have the same and get to enjoy it.

  3. This is a great list of Twitter tools, Sheila.

Truth is I have no idea how I would’ve managed all my accounts without the help from various tools. Buffer is definitely interesting; we’ll see what it develops into.

As always, your mention is much appreciated, Sheila!

    • Alvin,

No I don’t find that a problem. I used Tweetriod to find the peak times my followers are on Twitter. Then I add real time tweets that are different, like Twittervations and RTs. Actually I think Tweeting in blocks of time works best for catching your followers attention.

  5. Hi Sheila,

I’ve been seeing more and more folks using the Tweet Old Post plugin. I’ve found a lot of great posts because of it. I have seen quite a few, however, with the words “New Post” or “Happy “, which is a bit awkward… Now that I have old posts, maybe I’ll give it a try.

I prefer HootSuite over TweetDeck, but I think it’s personal preference. Being able to read streams in columns is an absolutely necessity once you follow more than 100 people.

One tool I do find myself using a few times a week is TwitBlock. I get so many spammer-type followers, and it can be tough to find the time to review them and block them. With TwitBlock, it identifies probable spammers and lets you easily block them. My favorite feature is that it tells you if the user’s avatar is on multiple accounts. 2 or 3, no issue, but sometimes it’s 150+!

I haven’t read Twitter Dummy. I started out with the Tao of Twitter, which I highly recommend. I was definitely a dummy those first few weeks, but I think I’m doing much better now!

You will love the Tweet Old Posts plugin. Your blog posts have great headlines and content. It is a perfect way to repurpose them.

Thanks for your recommendations. I did look at HootSuite but I was already using TweetDeck and did not want to learn a new system…so you are right it could be a matter of personal preference.

I will have to check out TweetBlock It sounds like a tool I could use.

Thanks for taking the time to add to my post.

  8. Well, its been like that we bloggers have really not been having that much time to keep it up with our social networking profiles and this is where these apps come to our rescue. We all have a fixed number of seconds each day and plenty of works to do, including keeping us alive, especially on the “network”.

  10. True to form, this post rocks!

I’d like to take a peek at “Buffer” — it sounds pretty cool. And I’m definitely going to plug in Tweet Old Posts.

    Thank you, Sheila. :)

    • Melanie,

When it comes to Buffer, I have had to put a system in place that works. For instance, I have an add to buffer link in my tool bar so I can easily add posts I like to my buffer list. I also have lists of quotes, my posts and freebies I can copy and paste when I am filling up my buffer for the day. The idea is to save time.

I have hardly been online in the last week. We are getting ready to launch our new site. But I have had more RTs than I have ever had before. I attribute it to Buffer, Tweet Old Posts and Triberr.

I am still writing poetry. My best writing time is when I am in the car. I learned a trick from Paul Wolfe at http://www.onespoonatatime.com/. He suggested recording your voice so that you learn to write naturally. I have been doing that for my poems. It really helps out with the cadence and my imagination.

  12. Hi Sheila –

Thank you once again for giving us some new tools to make our online lives easier.
I’ve been thinking about going back and re-tweeting old posts… but I thought I would be doing this manually. Frankly that’s why I wasn’t getting around to it… just another thing that takes some valuable time. I’m thrilled to know there is a plugin that can do this for me.

What I really appreciate about your posts is you go the extra mile and provide screenshots that show at a glance the features of all of these great tools! In addition to your wonderful descriptions of how they work and how they will make life easier.

Thanks also for the Twitter guide!

Tweetdeck is fantastic… it is my favorite Twitter tool. I’ve been using it for quite a while now and I love it. I’ve also brought my facebook stream into Twitter. There are so many functions which make it indispensable! Great tip!

    Thank you, thank you!

    • Theresa,

You are most welcome. Because you can control Tweet Old Posts by category I have gone back and changed a few categories. I do not want a Happy New Year or Merry Christmas post to show up in the middle of July.

      Thank you for commenting.

  13. Hi Sheila

Use some of these and they are great. Will have to look into the others and see if I also need them in my arsenal of twitter tools.

Thanks for sharing another informative post Sheila. Off to RT

  14. Hi Sheila:

Some how it feels as if I did not come to your site for a while. However, two things to mention about. One is thank you so much for mentioning my guest post in the comment section of your post. A very concerned and friendly gesture on your part.
You wrote so much about Twitter and I did not even talk about it in my comment. My mind was some where else, realizing my absent mindedness I decide to write another comment. Twitter I find more effective than the most favorite social site to me. It takes least time to connect and shows results. This is why I like it more than any other site.

Besides, there are so many plug ins, so many ways to tweet retweet, ping and a lot more that you have mentioned in your post.

Thanks for putting so much information together, in one post.

So glad you dropped back by. You are welcome on the link. I am learning to take my clients mobile and I found your guest post very helpful.

There are a lot of plugins and tools for Twitter, I think it is a matter of finding the ones that work the best for you. I learned TweetDeck and have it all set up the way I like it, so it would take a lot for met to change to something new. I have also set up a system for Buffer that makes it easy and fast to use.

Thanks Fran…I appreciated all your support.

Thank you for this information as it answers a question I had been searching for and that is how tweeters made their quality tweets so effortless. Buffer seems to be the answer to that and I am now giving this service a trial run.

  18. Hi Sheila, Thank you for this helpful post on Twitter Tools. I would love to use Tweet OId Posts, but about 5% of my blog posts are about breaking tech news which wouldn’t fit for a re-tweet (e.g., about the launch of the iPad 2). I know you mentioned in an earlier comment that you could exclude holiday posts, but could you explain a little more how I would exclude the “breaking news” posts? Most of my blog has helpful information about tech that could be enjoyed by readers at any time (how to keep your tech devices charged, which browser to use, etc.)

I am all-in Sheila with these tools :) Actually, there is an exception to tweetdeck as I have for some reason abandoned using it for quite a while now. main reason was because it was a memory hog and slowing down my PC while it was running. Using hootsuite instead.

I agree, there are times when I have to shut TweetDeck down. I have gotten use to the how it works and love my lists. Taking the time to learn something new like Hootsuite is a big stop for me. Maybe I should take a second look at it.

      Thanks for the suggestion.

I think Tweet Old Posts is really nice but only if you set it up to tweet old posts once a week or so, e.g. on weekends.

TweetDeck is a must but I’m still waiting for G+ compatibility :)

You can control how often your old posts are tweeted. Tweets are based on hours, but your can set your hrs to anything you want.
